by Tirol increases the number of HGV traffic restrictions
According to the new calendar approved by the Tyrolean state government for the first half of 2023, there are 24 days when the number of lorries allowed to pass the German-Austrian border per hour will be limited. That is 3 more days than in the same period of 2022.
On these days, the police will slow down HGV traffic at a specially created checkpoint on the A12 in the direction of Innsbruck near Kufstein Nord, starting from 5 AM and, if necessary, bring it to a standstill so that only around 300 trucks from Germany are allowed to travel along the A12 per hour.

The waiver is effective on Monday, August 15, 2022 from midnight to 2:00 p.m. and applies to the carriage of selected goods.
Bans will be lifted on vehicles transporting only food and feed, hygiene products and drugstore products from storage to point of sale, within the goods shipping area and adjacent departments on Monday 15 August 2022 from midnight to 2:00 pm. The return of these vehicles unladen after unloading is allowed in the shipping area and adjacent departments.
In the event of an inspection by the agents of the competent authority, drivers must be able to demonstrate compliance with the transport carried out. Any document allowing the justification of the transport must be delivered to the agents of the competent authority and be in the vehicle or be immediately available (e.g. online).
by Fee waiver for special transports on AP9 and AP53 in Spain
Transports with certain dimensions will be able to travel for free on the AP9 and AP53 motorways overnight until December 31, unless an alternative section is available in advance.
The collapse of the two spans of the El Castro viaduct on the A6 at the height of Pedrafita do Cebreiro in the lane towards Madrid made certain transports impossible to travel through the city due to dimensions and road safety hazards. Therefore, the Spanish Ministry of Transport allows free travel on the AP9 and AP33 motorways between 22:00 and 6:00 for trucks over 26 meters long and 3 meters wide.

Taking into account the forecast of mass departures, the following restrictive measures have been adopted.
In view of the forecasted increase in traffic volume during the long weekend, the following restrictions have been introduced on some road and motorway sections for vehicles or combinations of vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of more than 7.5 tons, which are required to use the right lane and must not overtake other vehicles and drive faster than 80 km/h. They will be in force from August 7, 14, 15 and 21 from 15:00 to 22:00 on the AP-7 north motorway, between km 111.1, exit 11 at Sant Celoni and Montseny, in the municipality of Sant Celoni and km 133.8, exit 13 at Granollers, Montornès del Vallès and Vilanova del Vallés, in the municipality of Montornés del Vallés.
by Germany: Changes in the holiday HGV driving bans
Article 1 of the holiday travel regulation of May 13, 1985, amended on June 24, introduces changes in the description of some motorway sections affected by the holiday driving ban.
The changes concern sections of the A1, A5, A7 and A10 (Berliner Ring). In addition, the ban on the section of the A215 has been lifted.

On Friday, July 29:
⏺ the AP-7 motorway, between KP 126, exit 12B at La Roca del Vallés, Granollers and the junction with the C-60 in La Roca del Vallés, and KP 172, exit 25 at Martorell and the junction with the A-2 in the Motoresll commune, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
⏺ the AP-7 motorway in the territory of Terres de l’Ebre, where there are only two lanes, between KP 257, exit 35 at Vila-seca, Salou, Reus S. and Port Aventura, in the municipality of Vila-seca, and KP 344,8 the border between Tarragona and Castellón, in the municipality of Ulldecona, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
On Sunday, July 31:
⏺ the northbound C-32, between KP 114, at the junction 113 at Canet de Mar, in the municipality of Canet de Mar, and KP 84.5, at the junction with the B-20, in the municipality of Montgat.

Owing to the renovation works the following section of the A6 motorway will be closed in both directions on the night of 27/28 July, between 11:00 PM and 06:00 AM, the motorway section will be completely closed.
• in the direction of A Coruña between KP 10+400 and 12+800,
• in the direction of Madrid between KP 23+000 and 11+000
An alternative route into Madrid starts at exit 23 on the A-6 towards the M-50 and then follows along the M-503 until it joins the M-40 and exit 15 on the A6, then along the service road (Avenida de la Victoria del Plantío) towards M-40.
An alternative route towards A Coruña starts at exit 11 on the A-6, then follows along M-503 only to return to the A-6 near las Rozas.
Information about the traffic situation will be displayed on information boards and on construction signs with a yellow background.
by Lorries banned from using alternative routes in Bavaria during HGV traffic restrictions in Tyrol
HGV traffic restrictions the border crossing in Kufstein (A12) between Bavaria and Tyrol regularly cause significant traffic jams on the German side, and consequently result in higher traffic intensity on alternative routes in Bavaria.
Currently road signs along the A8 and A93 motorways warn lorry drivers that vehicles with a MAM of more than 7.5 tons are not allowed to use other roads in order to avoid traffic jams on the motorways caused by the limiting of the number of lorries allowed to cross the border per hour.
On these days, traffic control authorities in the districts of Miesbach, Rosenheim, Traunstein and Berchtesgadener Land ban lorries in cross-border traffic from leaving the motorway.

Exceptions:
Vehicles that have to make scheduled stops in the above mentioned dsitricts are allowed to leave the motorway under certain conditions. However, they have to return to the motorway immediately after the stop has finished. Acceptable reasons for scheduled stops:
• delivery or collection of goods,
• return of the lorry to its operational centre,
• a change of drivers,
• the need to take an obligatory rest break
• the journey to the driver’s place of residence,
• refueling or repairs.

by HGV driving bans suspended owing to heat waves
Owing to extreme heatwaves, the Hungarian Ministry of Transport and Česmad Slovakia have decided to suspend weekend HGV driving bans.
HUNGARY: Owing to a third degree heat alert the bans are suspended on the first weekend day until midnight on Saturday. The suspension can be extended until Sunday if the country’s chief medical officer decides to prolong the heat alert. So far, however, no such announcement has been made. Normally, during the summer period, the ban would apply from 3PM on Saturday to 10PM on Sunday, but the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) has decided to suspend it owing to extremely high temperatures, explaining that the requirement to take a period of obligatary rest in a hot cabin would pose a serious health risk for drivers.
Consequently, all lorries are allowed to travel on the entire Hungarian road network on Saturday, the 23rd of July, regardless of their environmental classification.
SLOVAKIA: At the request of ČESMAD, Slovakia’s Presidium of the Slovak Police has granted a general exemption to the driving ban on Saturday and Sunday (23 and 24 July) owing to extremely high temperatures. The relaxation covers both domestic and international transports.
