New conditions of entry into Italy also for drivers
The new conditions of entry, which came into effect on 18 August, vary depending on the person’s country of origin.
According to information provided by the Italian Ministry of Internal Affairs and International Cooperation, special containment measures, (COVID-19 test or quarantine) are now imposed on persons entering Italy if, within the last 14 days, they have stayed in (or passed through) one of the following countries: Croatia, Greece, Malta and Spain. Such persons are obliged to submit the attestation that they have undergone a molecular or antigenic test, carried out by means of a swab and with a negative result, within 72 hours prior to entering Italy or to undergo such a test within 48 hours of entering the country. All persons travelling to Italy from any foreign location are obliged, upon request, to submit a self-declaration.
Professional drivers who have stayed in or (passed through) one of the above-mentioned countries are exempt from these special containment measures if:
• they can prove that they are entering Italy for professional reasons
• before entering Italy, they fill in a self-declaration
In addition, professional drivers can stay in Italy for a maximum period of 120 hours (36 hours in transit), after which time they are obliged to leave the country or undergo quarantine.
