Madrid: Traffic restrictions until January 7
Between November 23, 2018 and January 7, 2019, vehicles with a maximum authorised mass exceeding 3,5 t, designed for the transportation of goods and people, are prohibited from travelling along Gran Vía street (from Plaza de España to the crossroads with Alcalá Street). There is also a general traffic ban for all vehicles in Aduana Street and Jardines Street between 11 am to 11 pm (except for residents and municipal services).
This is another year that the Madrid City Council has decided to introduce special traffic restrictions in the center of the capital in connection with the Christmas season. November 30 will see the official launch of the ‘Madrid Central – Low Emissions Zone’ (covering an area of 472 hectares) – a residential priority area which will favor pedestrian and cyclist mobility and public transport. As a result, certain access and parking restrictions in the Center will apply from then on.
Under the holiday traffic ban, the loading and unloading of merchandise on Gran Vía street must take place exclusively between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. and in the streets of Aduana and Jardines between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Vehicles exempted from the temporary traffic ban:
• Buses of the Municipal Transport Company
• Tourist transport buses operating under a municipal concession agreement, with a fixed itinerary and schedule.
• Navibuses for Christmas Lights tours, organized by the Madrid City Council.
• Mobile production units and broadcast TV trucks
In exceptional cases, permissions for vehicles not included in the above categories, can be obtained from the General Directorate of the Municipal Police.
