To combat excessive transit traffic, we will therefore continue to apply this measure, because it helps us make sure that traffic in our state does not come to a complete standstill on busy days, ”emphasizes Governor Günther Platter.
HGV transit traffic has now nearly reached the pre-crisis level. In the months from January to July 2021, around 1.43 million HGVs were recorded at the main toll station in Schönberg. In the same period of the record year 2019, 1.49 million trucks were recorded. In fact, the number of trucks driving through the Brenner Pass in June 2021 (217,443) exceeded the level reached in the same month of 2019 (210,803).
Ingrid Felipe, deputy-governor responsible for transport, emphasizes the need for the limiting measure to relieve traffic congestion of the Inntal and Brenner motorways: “On the specified days, high congestion is to be expected along the Brenner corridor. The limiting measure is therefore still essential in order to avoid dangerous situations on slip roads. ” Last year, due to the pandemic-related mobility restrictions, the measure was implemented only 24 of the originally 35 planned days. HGV traffic was limited for a total of 96 hours, which corresponds to an average of 4 hours per day. HGV transit traffic has only slightly decreased compared with 2019. “A decline of 6.3 percent during the worst economic crisis is only a minor dent in the statistics and, given the significant increase in the volume of traffic, does not bring long-term relief for the Tyrolean population. As long as there are no European solutions that significantly reduce HGV traffic in Tyrol by relocating it, we will continue to use the tried and tested limiting measure,” emphasizes Felipe.

The calendar for the first half of 2022:

7.01.2022 – Friday after the Feast of Epiphany
7.02.2022 – Monday
14.2.2022 – Monday
21.2.2022 – Monday
28.2.2022 – Monday
7.03.2022 – Monday
14.03.2022 – Monday
26.04.2022 – Tuesday after Liberation Day in Italy
23.05.2022 – Monday before Ascension Day
24.05.2022 – Tuesday before Ascension Day
25.05.2022 – Wednesday before Ascension Day
27.05.2022 – Friday after Ascension Day
3.06.2022 – Friday after Republic Day in Italy / Friday before Pentecost
4.06.2022 – Saturday before Pentecost
7.06.2022 – Tuesday after Pentecost
8.06.2022 – Wednesday after Pentecost
9.06.2022 – Thursday after Pentecost
13.06.2022 – Monday before Corpus Christi
14.06.2022 – Tuesday before Corpus Christi

The calendar of the HGV traffic restrictions for the first half of 2022 has been approved by the Tyrolean state government. “The last three and a half years have shown that the measure limiting the number of trucks passing the German-Austrian border is indispensable for Tyrol as a way of maintaining traffic flow and ensuring […]

[1
