At the request of MKFE, the Ministry of Construction and Transport has introduced a nighttime free passage window as part of the truck driving ban for St. Stephen\u2019s Day. This means that restrictions on heavy goods vehicles will not begin tonight (Tuesday), but only on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 06:00 a.m.<\/div>\n<\/h1>\n

The shortened truck ban period in Hungary will be as follows:
\n\u2705 August 20, 2025<\/b> (Wednesday) from 06:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
\n(the ban applies to all heavy goods vehicles with a maximum permissible total weight over 7.5 tons).<\/p>\n

According to the ministry, this measure is intended to ensure the continuity of supply chains and reduce the risk of spoilage of perishable goods. It also provides hauliers with greater flexibility in transport planning.<\/p>\n

MKFE has long been advocating for the introduction of a permanent nighttime passage window every weekend from 10:00 p.m. to 06:00 a.m., which would allow trucks over 7.5 tons GVW to operate during hours of minimal passenger car traffic. Although general regulations have not yet been amended, this year\u2019s St. Stephen\u2019s Day ban will follow this model.<\/p>\n

General exemptions from truck bans in Hungary<\/h3>\n

During truck driving bans (so-called kamionstop), the following vehicles are fully exempt:
\n\u25aa\ufe0f those transporting live animals,
\n\u25aa\ufe0f fresh milk and dairy products,
\n\u25aa\ufe0f fresh or frozen meat and meat products,
\n\u25aa\ufe0f fresh bakery products,
\n\u25aa\ufe0f perishable foodstuffs,
\n\u25aa\ufe0f eggs,
\n\u25aa\ufe0f fresh, unprocessed vegetables and fruit,
\n\u25aa\ufe0f cereals and cereal products,
\n\u25aa\ufe0f as well as empty vehicles traveling to loading points or returning from unloading (if originally designed for transporting such goods).<\/p>\n

\"\" In addition, trucks returning from abroad may, in July and August, travel from the state border to the company\u2019s base in Hungary or to the first unloading location, even during the truck driving ban. However, during weekend or holiday restrictions, they are not permitted to use the following 19 road sections:
\na) M7 motorway \u2013 entire length
\nb) National Road 2 \u2013 from Budapest to km 39+150, and Road M2 \u2013 from the junction with Roads 2 and 12 to Parassapuszta
\nc) Expressway 2\/A \u2013 entire length
\nd) National Road 6 \u2013 between Duna\u00fajv\u00e1ros and Budapest
\ne) National Road 7
\nf) National Road 10 \u2013 between Dorog and Budapest
\ng) National Road 11 \u2013 between Esztergom and Budapest
\nh) National Road 12 \u2013 entire length
\ni) Road 1201 \u2013 entire length
\nj) National Road 51 \u2013 between the junction with Road 510 and D\u00f6ms\u00f6d
\nk) National Road 71 \u2013 entire length
\nl) National Road 76 \u2013 between the junctions with Roads 71 and 7, and between Zalaap\u00e1ti and Road 71
\nm) National Road 55 \u2013 between Als\u00f3ny\u00e9k and Baja
\nn) National Road 82 \u2013 from Road 8 to Veszpr\u00e9mvars\u00e1ny
\no) National Road 84 \u2013 from S\u00fcmeg to Road 71
\np) National Road 33 \u2013 from Dorm\u00e1nd to Debrecen
