Turin introduces sudden ban on Euro 5 trucks
The authorities of Turin have introduced temporary traffic restrictions due to high PM10 particulate matter levels, activating the red level of the anti-smog system. The ban includes, among others, diesel Euro 5 trucks, including vehicles in transit, forcing carriers to change routes and adjust transport schedules.
The City of Turin (Città di Torino) has implemented temporary vehicle traffic restrictions due to elevated PM10 concentrations. On February 26–27, 2026, level 2 (red level of the semaforo antismog system) applies, which means a ban on diesel Euro 5 vehicles, including heavy trucks, from 08:00 to 19:00. The restrictions apply to both local transport and transit through the city. The decision is based on air quality measurements conducted by Arpa Piemonte on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If PM10 limits are exceeded, the ban enters into force the following day, so carriers should consider this procedure when planning routes and transport schedules.
Seasonal anti-smog restrictions in Turin remain in force until April 15, 2026, and include a 24-hour ban on diesel Euro 0–2, petrol Euro 0–2, and LPG/methane Euro 0–1 vehicles. On weekdays (Monday to Friday), restrictions also apply to diesel Euro 3–4 vehicles between 08:00 and 19:00. Temporary activations of the semaforo antismog system, such as the Euro 5 ban in February 2026, depend on current air quality measurements.
