Spain – changes in traffic fine schedule and lower speed limits
Changes are planned to take effect from 2nd January 2019. This, however, will depend on the completion of all necessary procedures and the approval by the Council of Ministers.
The first and most expected measure is the introduction of new speed limits, which will be lowered from 100 kph to 90 kph on many secondary roads (with a total length of about 7000 km). Those caught driving faster than 111 kph will face a fine of 300 euro and receive 2 penalty points.
More stringent penalties will be imposed for using a mobile while driving. This offence will now cost drivers 6 instead 3 penalty points.
