Slovenia – an overtaking ban for trucks
The Slovenian authorities have imposed an overtaking ban for HGVs above 7.5 tons on all motorways in the country. The ban came into effect on November 1.
The decision was justified by results of a test carried out on a 250-kilometer section of the Slovenian A1 motorway. An overtaking ban for HGVs introduced in January 15, 2020 has been found to significantly improve road safety and traffic flow.
An overtaking ban for heavy goods vehicles with a MAM of over 7.5 tonnes on the A1 motorway has been in effect since the beginning of 2021 but only during daylight hours on the section from Šentilj to Koper. Now it has been extended to apply at night and on other motorways in Slovenia.
Drivers that do not comply with the ban face a fine of 300 euros.
