Germany: weighbridge on A44 and HGV ban on the Bergausen bridge
A weighbridge has just been installed on the Bergausen bridge on the A 44. The bridge will be closed to lorries over 3.5 tonnes coming from Dortmund until April.
The device features a light signal and a boom gate, which blocks access to lorries over 3.5 tonnes and with a width exceeding 2.1 metres. Such vehicles are then diverted to a special ramp. The weighbridge will be in operation until the end of April, when the bridge renovation work is expected to be over.
At the Kassel West junction HGV traffic is diverted through A49. Drivers who fail to respect the ban face fines of up to 500 euro.
The bridge on the Fulda river in Berghausen near Kassel can no longer withstand the growing volume of traffic and its southern part from the side of the Kassel-Süd junction has to be reinforced.
