France suspends HGV driving bans for vehicles transporting hydrocarbons
The suspension of the driving ban for certain types of HGVs with a maximum authorized mass of over 7.5 tons is in effect until April 10.
This decision was motivated by:
– disruptions in hydrocarbon supplies caused by the war in Ukraine,
– blockades of some oil terminals, refineries and oil product depots,
– the strategic importance and urgent need to ensure the supply of hydrocarbon products and the functioning of distribution points for the national economy and the likely consequences of shortages of these products.
By virtue of a decree issued on March 18, the application of driving bans for HGVs with a maximum authorized mass of over 7.5 has been suspended until April 10, for vehicles transporting hydrocarbon products, except for butane, propane and gas for industrial use.
Empty runs performed by vehicles specified above are permitted on those days when the general driving ban is in effect.
In the event of a roadside check, drivers of these vehicles must be able to prove that the transport complies with the condition of the suspension. Any document sued as evidence of transport must be carried in the vehicle or be immediately accessible in electronic form.
