Bulgaria introduces temporary truck bans >12 tons at the beginning of September
Carriers planning journeys through Bulgaria must prepare for temporary restrictions on the movement of trucks over 12 tons. The bans are related to the celebrations of Unification Day (September 6).
The restrictions will apply to the Trakia, Struma, and Hemus motorways and will be in force during peak hours:
▪️ September 5 (Thursday) – from 17:00 to 20:00,
▪️ September 6 (Friday, public holiday) – from 08:00 to 12:00,
▪️ September 8 (Sunday) – from 14:00 to 20:00.
On Saturday, September 7, truck traffic will not be restricted.
The restrictions will cover:
➡️ the entire length of the Struma and Trakia motorways in both directions,
➡️ the Hemus motorway in both directions on the section from Sofia to the roundabout with road I-4 Brestnitsa – Lovech.
Exemptions have been granted for vehicles over 12 tons transporting dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable products, and cargo requiring controlled temperature conditions. On the Trakia motorway, an additional exception allows ADR vehicles to operate on the section from the Ihtiman junction (km 34) to the Vakarel junction (km 23) in the direction of Sofia.
According to the announcement, similar restrictions will also be introduced on public holidays connected with Independence Day celebrations – September 22.
