Transport through Hungary: Full restrictions from March 7
From Saturday, March 7, 2026 (10:00 PM), Hungary will reinstate full weekend driving bans for trucks over 7.5 tonnes GVW. The winter exemption for international transport is ending, meaning restrictions will again apply to cross-border operations.
Between November 4 and March 1, a significant exemption was in place. International transport carried out by vehicles meeting at least the EURO 4 emission standard was not subject to the ban. This means that from the weekend of March 7–8, 2026, the bans will once again apply to both domestic and international transport, regardless of the vehicle’s emission class.
Restriction hours
The standard driving ban in Hungary applies to vehicles over 7.5 tonnes GVW:
▶️ from 10:00 PM on Saturdays and on the eve of public holidays
▶️ until 10:00 PM on Sundays and public holidays
During the summer period (July/August), restrictions apply from 3:00 PM on Saturday until 10:00 PM on Sunday.
March 15 marks the Anniversary of the 1848 Revolution in Hungary. In 2026, it falls on a Sunday, so only the standard Sunday ban will apply, without any additional extensions.
