
HGV driving bans suspended owing to heat waves
Owing to extreme heatwaves, the Hungarian Ministry of Transport and Česmad Slovakia have decided to suspend weekend HGV driving bans.
HUNGARY: Owing to a third degree heat alert the bans are suspended on the first weekend day until midnight on Saturday. The suspension can be extended until Sunday if the country’s chief medical officer decides to prolong the heat alert. So far, however, no such announcement has been made. Normally, during the summer period, the ban would apply from 3PM on Saturday to 10PM on Sunday, but the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) has decided to suspend it owing to extremely high temperatures, explaining that the requirement to take a period of obligatary rest in a hot cabin would pose a serious health risk for drivers.
Consequently, all lorries are allowed to travel on the entire Hungarian road network on Saturday, the 23rd of July, regardless of their environmental classification.
SLOVAKIA: At the request of ČESMAD, Slovakia’s Presidium of the Slovak Police has granted a general exemption to the driving ban on Saturday and Sunday (23 and 24 July) owing to extremely high temperatures. The relaxation covers both domestic and international transports.
